Diversified Technique

There are a number of manual based adjusting techniques that make up the Palmer method.  We utilize the most popular technique called Diversified.

Once we have analyzed your spine through the examination process and possible x-rays, we will then look to identify the specific malpositioned joints.  This typically includes static and motion palpation which is simply using our hands to determine which joints are misaligned and not moving properly.  Motion palpation involves having the patient perform a specific movement while the doctor is palpating the joint in question.  Checking leg length and balance may also be performed to identify spinal imbalances.

Once the misalignment has been identified, a specific manual thrust is applied.  We utilize the appropriate speed, depth and direction of the thrust based on our knowledge of spinal mechanics to produce the desired result of realigning the joint and restoring normal motion.  Sometimes, a “pop” will be heard upon administering the correction.  This is just gas bubbles being released from the joint fluid.  Not all manual adjustments produce this sound and thus it should not be used as a confirmation that “something happened”.
